Sound and Vision Media was started by Howard Cook in 1972 focusing on audio production and music recording. The audio studios produced recordings for some of best known bands such as Pastiche, O-Positive, The Classic Ruins, Rick Russel, and hundreds of other local talents. Howard was also instrumental in getting record contracts for bands including Tracy Chapman and Phish. Phish’s Junta album, recorded in our studio, were released by Electra Records and went platinum. David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix masters were also categorized and mixed at our studios for Rykodisc.
After the MIDI revolution, the studio started concentrating on corporate video production and green screen video production. Howard’s background as a medical photographer and videographer and his association with Harvard Medical School helped launch the video production side while Mark Helms built the sales end of the company.
